About Dr. Craft
Dr. Stephen H. Craft is Dean and Professor of Business at the Michael E. Stephens College of Business at the University of Montevallo. In this capacity, Dr. Craft serves as the chief academic officer for all undergraduate and graduate programs in business and accounting as well as administrative head of the college. The University of Montevallo’s undergraduate programs in business and accounting as well as the MBA program are fully accredited by AACSB International.

As a professor and consultant, Dr. Craft has advised the senior management of corporate, civic, and nonprofit organizations. He has conducted or overseen over 150 research studies focused upon best-practice governance, strategic outcomes, and performance measures often being called upon to assess seemingly un-measurable elements of performance. Dr. Craft has developed or strategically repositioned brands for consumer products, business services, and nonprofit causes. Dr. Craft has tested messages and audiences acceptance across a variety of print, online, and broadcast media.
Prior to academia, Dr. Craft spent years in industry holding positions responsible for sales, product development, customer segment management, and brand management including positions as Senior Product Manager for First American Bank (Washington, DC) and Manager of Marketing Strategies at the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation.
Dr. Craft completed work on his Ph.D. at The George Washington University (Washington, DC) where he received his MBA. Dr. Craft holds a BA from Birmingham-Southern College. His prior academic administration includes serving as the Dean of Business Programs and Chair of the Department of Business and Accounting at Birmingham-Southern College as well as Chair of the Department of Marketing and Electronic Business at Towson University. Dr. Craft is the former Elton B. Stephens Professor of Marketing at Birmingham-Southern College. He has held prior full-time faculty appointments in the College of Business and Economics at Towson University, The School of Business and Public Management at The George Washington University and a part-time appointment at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at The University of Maryland, College Park.

Professional & Civic Affiliations
In the Birmingham region, Dr. Craft is a 2010 graduate of Leadership Birmingham, a 2006 graduate of Leadership Vestavia Hills and a member of the 2012 class of Leadership Shelby County. He serves on the board of the Alabama Association of Nonprofits and the board of Media for Health, a nonprofit media organization that produces public-health based broadcast dramas. Dr. Craft is a member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham and the Blueprint Vestavia Steering Committee.
Dr. Craft is Past President of the Birmingham Chapter of the American Marketing Association. He formerly served on the board of the American Red Cross, the executive board of the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce, the Birmingham Business Alliance Council of Economic Advisors, the Norton Board of Advisors to Birmingham-Southern College, the Editorial Advisory Board for the Birmingham Business Journal, the board of the Birmingham Chapter of the American Advertising Association as well as the Communications/PR Committee for the Campaign for a New Vestavia Hills Public Library. Dr. Craft is past congregational President of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham.
Nationally, Dr. Craft is active with AACSB International, the American Marketing Association, the European Marketing Academy, the Society for Marketing Advances, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Marketing Science. He holds the PCM (Professional Certified Marketer) designation from the American Marketing Association.
